Dynamic Management of Paratransit Vehicle Schedules

چکیده
In this paper we describe REVAMP, a mixed-initiative tool for real-time management of paratransit vehicle schedules. Like many applications, paratransit scheduling is a dynamic, execution-driven process, where unexpected events (e.g., traffic, breakdowns, new requests, cancelations) continually force changes to precomputed schedules. The design of REVAMP aims at support for this dynamic, real-time scheduling process. Real-time information on the status and location of vehicles and pending trips is used by REVAMP to maintain a “live” schedule and provide the coordinating Dispatcher with early visibility of potential delays. In response to detected problems or opportunities, REVAMP can be used to generate options for rearranging vehicle schedules to achieve better quality of service. REVAMP is being developed to support daily operations at ACCESS transportation systems, which provides an advance reservation, shared ride paratransit service for the greater Pittsburgh area in southwestern Pennsylvania. We are currently integrating REVAMP into the existing technology base used to support daily operations by one of ACCESS’s service providers for an initial pilot test. We describe the principal components of REVAMP and the current state of our solution to the ACCESS scheduling problem.

A Dynamic Day-ahead Paratransit Planning Problem
We consider a dynamic planning problem for the transport of elderly and disabled people. The focus is on a decision to make one day ahead: which requests to serve with own vehicles, and which ones to assign to subcontractors, under uncertainty of late requests which are gradually revealed during the day of operation. We call this problem the Dynamic Day-ahead Paratransit Planning problem. The d...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of the “Zoning” Strategies for ADA Paratransit Services
ADA paratransit systems are dial-a-ride services providing public transportation to disabled customers. In large metropolitan areas, these services might adopt zoning strategies to simplify their management. The objective of this research is to provide a more in-depth evaluation and comparison between centralized and decentralized zoning strategies for the city of Houston, Texas, by developing ...
متن کاملImproving the Energy Management of Parallel Hybrid Electric Vehicle by Dynamic Programming Using Electro-Thermal Model of Battery
In this paper, an offline energy management system (EMS) is proposed for parallel hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). The proper energy management system is necessary for dividing torque between electrical motor and Internal Combustion Engine (ICE). The battery is a crucial component of hybrid electric vehicles and affects significantly the cost and the performance of the whole vehicle. The primar...

Defining paratransit According to Vuchic (2007), paratransit can be characterised as being “urban passenger transport service mostly in highway vehicles operated on public streets in mixed traffic; it is provided by private or public transport operators and is available to certain groups of users or to the general public; but it is adaptable in its routeing and scheduling to individual user’s d...

In this article, public perception is expressed by user participation in rating the mode’s condition and loyalty to it. The aim of this research is to explore user perceptions of paratransit (i.e., jitney) operation, a privately owned and operated mode of transport, regarding quality of service, frequency of negative experience, and loyalty. This article examines the condition of paratransit fr...
